ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />Ukrainian police used water cannons on Tuesday (February 18) to disperse protesters on the edge of the Kiev square the protesters have occupied.<br/> <br />Anti-government protesters were seen hurling petrol bombs, fireworks and stones at riot police and igniting piles of tyres and wood to block officers entering Independence Square.<br/> <br />Nine people died during clashes in Kiev on Tuesday, including seven civilians and two policemen, the police said.<br/> <br />This was the worst day of violence since demonstrations erupted against President Viktor Yanukovich 12 weeks ago.<br/> <br />Western powers warned Yanukovich against trying to smash the pro-European demonstrations, and opposition leader Vitaly Klitschko, fearing an assault, urged women and children to leave Kiev's central square "to avoid further victims".
