The European Parliament has today pushed for sanctions to be imposed over the violence in Ukraine.<br /><br />MEPs called upon the European Union to introduce travel bans and freeze the European bank accounts of Ukraine officials responsible for the bloodshed.<br /><br />Elmar Brok, chairman of the European Parliament’s foreign affairs committee, said: “It is not sanctions against Ukraine, it is sanctions against certain personalities who carry personal responsibilities. Until now we wanted to have diplomatic solutions and come to a peaceful result but after this night I think the citizens of Ukraine can expect that we give certain, clearly defined answers.” <br /><br />German MEP Michael Gahler said: “We demand from the regime to stop the violence, and we demand that from Russia too.”<br /><br />On Thursday EU foreign ministers will have an extraordinary meeting to discuss sanctions on Ukraine.
