A group of unidentified armed men have taken control of the regional government offices and parliament building in Simferopol, in the Crimea region of Ukraine. <br /><br />The site was the scene of Wednesday’s scuffles between Tatar groups and pro-Russian supporters. <br /><br />Local Tatar leader, Refat Chubarov posted that the government buildings had been occupied by men in uniforms with no “recognisable insignia.”<br /><br />Following the fall of President Viktor Yanukovych divisions within Ukraine have come to the fore.<br /><br />Pro-Russian defence groups have set up road blocks and barricades to prevent pro-European protesters from travelling to the region from the capital Kyiv.<br /><br />As tensions simmer Russia has placed troops on alert and implemented measures to increase security at Russia’s Black Sea Fleet based in the area.
