Officials: Suicide bomber kills at least 32 in Iraq

The remnants of a suicide bomb attack in Iraq's southern city of Hilla.<br/> <br />At least 32 people were killed and more than 140 injured in the blast, according to police and medical sources.<br/> <br />An eyewitness explains.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) UNIDENTIFIED EYEWITNESS SAYING:<br/> <br />"This was a blast at a crowded checkpoint, Al-Athar checkpoint, killing many innocent civilians and policemen."<br/> <br />The attacker approached a northern entrance to the largely Shi'ite Muslim city, then detonated the explosives.<br/> <br />No official word on who was behind the bombing.<br/> <br />An official said the death toll is expected to rise.<br/> <br />The security situation in Iraq has been turbulent. A year of constant bombings killed at least 8,000 civilians in 2013<br/> <br />It's the highest since 2008.
