Shaun Pollock talks about his experience of taking over as South Africa captain shortly after Hansie Cronje had been banned for life.<br /><br />Captaincy was unexpected for Pollock but he had to adapt quickly, and led the side permanently until after the 2003 World Cup.<br /><br />He subsequently stood in on occasion when Graeme Smith was unavailable before retiring in 2008.<br /><br />Here, in the latest of a series of exclusive interviews with Cricket World (http://www.cricketworld.com) he says that it was important to deal with a lot of issues outside of the game, and win back the trust of the South African fans when he took over.
