<p>Police used water cannon and tear gas in Istanbul on March 12 to disperse protests. Crowds had taken to the streets on the day of the funeral of Berkin Elvan, a teenage boy shot with a tear gas canister during the 2013 Gezi Park protests. He died on March 11 after a nine-month stay in an intensive care unit at İstanbul’s Okmeydanı Hospital.
