Edward Norton is known for many roles, but some believe he's yet to top his breakthrough role in "Primal Fear." Norton played Aaron, an altar boy accused of brutally murdering a priest and turns to Richard Gere to clear his name. Yet as it turns out Aaron is really playing a masterful mind game as audiences are eventually clued in that the "good old country boy falsely accused" bit is all an act and Gere's egotistical lawyer actually unwittingly gets a killer off the hook.

What's even more fascinating is the nuances Norton himself brought to the role. Unlike the character in the book on which the film is based, Norton gives his character a stutter while playing the innocent victim role and then drops it when he mocks Gere with the truth.

The role landed Norton a supporting actor Oscar nomination.
