Originally published on December 11, 2013<br /> <br />Four soldiers were killed and a dozen more were injured in southern Thailand after a roadside bomb exploded on Wednesday.<br /><br />According to reports, an army truck with 16 soldiers on board was traveling in Thailand's Pattani province when a roadside bomb hidden in a canister was detonated by mobile phone.<br /><br />The bomb weighed 50 kilograms, AFP reported. <br /><br />"Sixteen soldiers were in the army truck -- they were being reshuffled for rest and recreation," a police officer in the Kha Pho district of Pattani province said adding that the four victims had died at the local hospital.<br />Another 12 soldiers were injured. Among them, six remain in hospital in critical condition.<br /><br />Security personnel, those connected with the government and Muslims thought to be collaborating with the authorities are regular targets in southern Thailand, a region plagued with unrest in recent years, AFP reported.<br /><br />More than 5,500 people have been killed since 2004, with rebel groups blamed for near-daily bombings and shootings.<br /><br />Thailand held its first official peace talks with southern armed groups, but attacks have continued, AFP reported. <br /><br />--------------------------------------------------------<br /><br />TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
