Installation of an electronic ignition.

Disconnect the battery.

Remove the 4 fan cover screws.

Lift off the fan cover.

Remove the 14mm bolt which secures the fan backing.

Tap down hard on the socket handle to help you loosen the nut.

With a hammer hit the socket wrench from above and below to loosen the fan backing.

Shake and pull the fan backing loose.

Put the 14mm bolt back into place.

Remove the rubber protection and lift the belt out of the way.

Disconnect the power from the points box.

Remove the points box.

Remove the metal protection plate.

Remove the cam washer.

Remove the points cam.

Open your new electronic ignition box.

You will find the installation instructions. A packet containing the magnets and connectors, and the electronic ignition.

Put the magnets into place.

Pass the wires through the passage in the engine cowling.

Fit the electronic ignition in place with its two bolts, but do not tighten them completely.

Fit the wires correctly into place until they arrive at the coil.

You can now connect the connectors to the end of the wires.

The red wire is the positive terminal from the ignition key, this is connected to positive terminal on the coil. It has a male connector.

Before crimping make sure you position the wire so that you crimp on the copper.

For the two other wires. Black is connected to the negative terminal of the coil, and the yellow to the positive terminal. Both have female connectors.

The positive wire on the coil which corresponds to the positive from the ignition key, is connected to the red wire.

The yellow wire is connected to the coil’s positive terminal.

The black wire is connected to the coil’s negative terminal.

Your installation is finished, you need to ensure the wires are tidy.

You will now regulate the ignition’s timing.

Find the static timing point.

Insert the 6 mm rod through the hole in the crankcase.
Slowly turn the flywheel until the rod is blocked.
The rod should pass through a hole.
The static timing point, is at 8 degree before the top dead centre.
It is important that you remove the rod.
Reconnect the battery.
Once you have connected the battery you will notice a LED lit on the front of the ignition.
Turn the electronic ignition towards the left until the LED goes out.
Now turn toward the right until the LED relights.
Your ignition is now set. Tighten the two fixing bolts.
Before reinstalling all of the accessories, try starting up the car.

Everything is fine, then you can start to reinstall the accessories.

Put back the rubber protection.

Replace the fan backing making sure that you fit the belt into the groove.

Tighten the fan bolt.

To help tighten the bolt, insert a flat headed screwdriver at the head of the starter and block the fan backing from turning.

Reinstall the fan grill.

All is installed.

Drive safely.
