Japan's Shigeru Ban wins Pritzker architecture award

The designer of the Centre Pompidou Museum in Metz France, architect Shigeru Ban has won the coveted 2014 Pritzker Architecture Prize.<br /><br />Known for his airy modernist designs and humanitarian work, Ban is the second successive architect from Japan to win the 73,000 euro prize. <br /><br />Ban is celebrated for his creative use of low cost materials.<br /><br />The Pritzker award was created by the late Jay A. Pritzker and his wife, Cindy, in 1979 to honour the world’s most innovative architects.
