Replacing an alternator. <br /> <br />Disconnect the battery. <br /> <br />Remove the 4 fan cover screws. <br /> <br />Remove the 14mm bolt which secures the fan backing. <br /> <br />Tap down hard on the socket handle to help you loosen the nut. <br /> <br />With a hammer hit the socket wrench from above and below to loosen the fan backing. <br /> <br />Shake and pull the fan backing loose. <br /> <br /> <br />Remove the alternator drive belt cover. <br /> <br />Remove the alternator belt. <br /> <br />Remove the positive wire cover, undo and disconnect the wire. <br /> <br />Unplug the excitation wire. <br /> <br />Undo and remove the alternator bolts. <br /> <br />We suggest that you change your alternator belt. <br /> <br />Position the alternator belt. <br /> <br />Reposition your alternator and insert the fixing bolt. <br /> <br />Tighten the nut, but not fully. <br /> <br />Fit the tension bolt and tighten its nut by hand for the moment. <br /> <br />Replace the fan backing making sure that you fit the belt into the groove. <br /> <br />Put the 14mm bolt back into place. <br /> <br />To help tighten the bolt, insert a flat headed screwdriver at the head of the starter and block the fan backing from turning. <br /> <br />Check that the alternator belt is correctly in place. <br /> <br />You can regulate the tension of the alternator belt. <br /> <br />Pivot the alternator upwards to apply tension to the alternator belt, and tighten the tension bolt nut. <br /> <br />Now tighten the fixing bolt nut. <br /> <br />Check again the alternator belt’s tension. <br /> <br />Attention, an alternator belt which is too tight could damage the alternator bearings. The belt should be stretchable as seen. <br /> <br />Check the state of the female excitation wire connector. <br /> <br />Reconnect the positive connector to the alternator. <br /> <br />Tighten the nut and recover with its protection. <br /> <br />Replace the alternator drive belt cover. <br /> <br />Before fully tightening the belt covers nuts, make sure that it is correctly centered and does not touch the alternator belt. <br /> <br />Reinstall the fan grill. <br /> <br />Reconnect the battery. <br />Start up and check that there are no sounds of elements rubbing together. <br /> <br />All is installed. Drive safely.
