Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Marble Madness for the Nintendo Entertainment System developed by Atari and Rare and published by Milton Bradley.

One of the most popular, surreal and perhaps eerie games ever released for the NES, Marble Madness was truly a game unlike any other. Although it was originally released to arcades and ported to several retro platforms, the game became a classic on the mega-popular NES. Designed by Mark Cerny, who would go on to design the PlayStation 4, Marble Madness was a puzzle-platform game ahead of its time. Built upon surprisingly sensitive and realistic physics, the game gave you a simple goal—roll the marble to the finish line. Of course, the catch is that the levels are like something M.C. Escher would dream up in a nightmare. Their complex designs and narrow pathways require deliberate control, but since you’re also on a timer, the game creates an overwhelming sense of pressure and tension. And as good as its gameplay is, the presentation and vibe are even cooler and more twisted. Marble Madness is a single-player game and interactive acid trip.

This video review features video gameplay footage of Marble Madness for the Nintendo Entertainment System and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek.
