The election race has begun in Ukraine where former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said she plans to run for president.<br /><br />She has twice been prime minister, but was unsuccessful in her 2010 presidential election bid.<br /><br />Tymoshenko told reporters she would stand as “a candidate for Ukrainian unity”, and said her 2014 campaign would be one of “direct action”.<br /><br />Meanwhile former boxer Vitaliy Klitschko has announced he will not be standing in the forthcoming elections, expected to be held in May<br /><br />Instead, he has chosen to endorse chocolate tycoon Petro Poroshenko.<br /><br />One of Ukraine’s richest men, Poroshenko is currently the most popular candidate for president, according to recent opinion polls.
