Iconic buildings worldwide go dark to mark WWF's 'Earth Hour'

The lights were turned off at landmarks across the globe on Saturday as countries took part in Earth Hour.<br /><br />More than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide were cloaked in darkness for up to 60 minutes in support of environmental issues.<br /><br />The annual event organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature, or WWF, started in Sydney, Australia in 2007.<br /><br />This year, non-essential lights were switched off in more than 150 countries. The dark period is supposed to be between 8.30 and 9.30 at night.<br /><br />Some of the most famous buildings taking part were the Eiffel Tower in Paris, London’s Houses of Parliament and Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer.
