Pakistan's former president Pervez Musharraf arrives at court amid tight security on Monday.<br/> <br />He's pleaded not guilty to five charges of treason.<br/> <br />He faces the death penalty if convicted.<br/> <br />The charges relate to Musharraf's suspension of the constitution and imposition of emergency rule in 2007.<br/> <br />Monday's hearing is a landmark.<br/> <br />It's the first time a former military officer of Musharraf's rank has appeared in court before a judge.<br/> <br />He's faced a series of cases since he returned to Pakistan from exile to contest elections in May.<br/> <br />The treason case has been repeatedly delayed since December.<br/> <br />First Musharraf refused to appear, then several explosive devices were discovered along his route to court.<br/> <br />In January he was admitted to hospital after suffering chest pains on the way to court.<br/> <br />Musharraf's lawyers are asking consent for him to visit his sick mother in Dubai.
