Afghanistan’s historic presidential election drew to a close on Saturday amid relief that attacks by Taliban fighters were fewer than feared.<br /><br />The vote will bring the first-ever democratic transfer of power in a country that’s been plagued by conflict for decades.<br /><br />It will take six weeks for votes to be counted. That’s because of the country’s rugged terrain. <br /><br />If there is no outright winner, the two front-runners would go into a run-off at the end of May.
