In Syria, there are reports that the government has taken over a strategic hill just north-east of the largest city of Aleppo. <br /> <br />Assad forces also appear to be stepping up an offensive in the countryside of the capital Damascus.<br /> <br />Al Jazeera's Charles Startford reports.
