Malta’s Labour Prime Minister Joseph Muscat joined around 1,000 people celebrating a new law on the Mediterranean island which recognises same-sex marriage on a legal par with marriage and gives gay couples the right to adopt.<br /><br />The opposition Nationalist party abstained from the vote and said it had reservations about gay adoptions claiming 80 percent of the population were against the law.
