US Airways plane "crashes" at Philadelphia international airport after nose gear collapse

Originally published on March 14, 2014<br /><br />U.S. Airways Flight 1720 with 149 people on board and five crew members had its nose gear collapse during take off at the Philadelphia International Airport on Thursday evening. <br /><br />The incident forced the pilot of the flight bound to Florida to make an emergency landing as the plane was taking off. <br /><br />The plane crashed onto the tarmac and passengers evacuated the aircraft at around 6:30 p.m. local time using emergency slides.<br /><br />"The plane went up, came back down a little bit the first time, then didn't think much of it," one of the passengers was quoted as saying by CBS News. "[It] went up the second time, and then kind of felt loose and went straight back into the ground," he said. <br /><br />Two minor injuries were reported but no one was seriously hurt in the accident.<br /><br />Passengers were relocated to another terminal, Reuters reported. <br /><br />Operations at the airport were halted and the runaway where the incident occurred closed. Other three runaways that were closed immediately after the crash were later re-opened. <br /><br />U.S. Airways is owned by American Airlines Group Inc.
