The President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, has been in power since August 2010. Before being elected head of state, he was Minister of Foreign Trade , Minister of Finance and Minister of Defence under President Alvaro Uribe. As Minister of Defence he led a crackdown on FARC , the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia .<br /><br />Now, for several months, the Colombian government has been holding talks with FARC in order to achieve a peace agreement that would put an end to fifty years of guerrilla warfare.
