Chinese sailors missing after cargo ships collide near Japan

Originally published March 18, 2014<br /><br />Nine Chinese crew members are missing after two cargo ships collided off Tokyo Bay early on Tuesday (March 18).<br /><br />According to the Japan Times, the Panamanian-flagged Beagle III, a 12,630-ton vessel, was carrying 20 crew members while the South Korean Pegasus Prime, a 7,406-ton container ship, was carrying 14 people on board.<br /><br />The incident happened at about 3:10 a.m. The two ships collided in the narrow waterway of Uraga, near Miura port, causing the Beagle III to capsize.<br /><br />Eleven crew members from the Beagle were rescued at around 8 a.m. Patrol ships and a helicopter continued to search for the missing crew members for about five hours after the collision, the South China Morning post reported. <br /><br />The crew of the Pegasus Prime were reportedly unhurt.<br /><br />The cause of the collision is still unknown, but according to the coast guard the sea was not rough at the time of the accident.
