Originally published on November 3, 2013 <br /><br />At least 10 people were killed and over a dozen injured when they were run over by a train in India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, according to a report by The Hindu newspaper.<br /><br />The incident occurred after a passenger on an express train pulled the train's emergency chain.<br /><br />The train came to a halt at a railway station 10km from Vizianagaram, in eastern Andhra Pradesh.<br /><br />Panic erupted after a rumor that several cars had caught fire quickly spread. Passengers fled the train and crossed the railway tracks.<br /><br />They failed to notice an oncoming train on the adjacent track coming around a bend in the opposite direction.<br /><br />"The passengers of the Alleppey-Dhanbad Express train pulled the (emergency) chain and got down.
