A veteran of Myanmar’s pro-democracy movement Win Tin has died at the age of 85.<br /><br />The former newspaper editor was one of the founder members of the Anug San Suu Kyi led National League for Democracy.<br /><br />Win Tin’s political activities led to his arrest by the ruling military in 1989.<br /><br />He spent 19 years in prison, mostly in solitary confinement, and his incarceration was twice extended. <br /><br />Win Tin was released in 2008. As a mark of defiance he continued to wear his prison uniform in solidarity with those that remained in jail. <br /><br />He had been suffering from a respiratory ailment prior to his death.
