The crew made a navigation error and sailed the ship toward the much smaller harbor of Torsö instead.

The ship ran aground at around 4 a.m.

Despite significant damage to its water ballast tank, the double hull provided protection and no fuel leaks have been reported.

According to reports, divers inspected the hull and bottom of the ship and are now determining how to approach the salvage of the vessel.

After the accident, the captain and the first officer tested positive for alcohol in a breathalyzer test administered by the Swedish Coast Guard. They were then brought ashore and handed over to local police.

According to the Maritime Executive, the captain claimed he had only taken a drink after the accident. Further tests in hospital however dismissed his claim.
He was arrested on suspicion of being drunk while in charge of the ship.

None of the six crewmembers onboard were injured.

--------------------------------------------------------

TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
