Originally published on November 4, 2013 <br /><br />Eight people died and another 10 were injured when a small turboprop plane operated by local airline Aerocon crashed in the north of Bolivia on Sunday.<br /><br />According to local reports, the plane, a Fairchild Metro 23 carrying 18 passengers, took off from Trinidad and was heading to Riberalta. <br /><br />The crash happened at around 4 p.m. local time, while the plane was about to land. <br /><br />According to Reuters, heavy rain was falling when the small plane tried to land in Riberalta. <br />La Razón reported that the plane crashed and exploded at the side of the airport landing lane.<br /><br />Low visibility and bad weather conditions are believed to have caused the crash. <br /><br />Several people intervened at the scene to help the victims of the accident.<br /><br />"(There were) 16 passengers and the pilot and co-pilot, of whom 10 survived and eight died," Jose Luis Pereira, director of the Riberalta hospital, told Reuters. "The pilot and the co-pilot are in the gravest situation... Seven (bodies) are (so) charred, we can't identify them."<br />As reported by ex-governor Ernesto Suárez on his Twitter account, three government employees in Beni lost their life in the accident. <br /><br />Jaime Claros, director of the Riberalta hospital, told La Razón that the injured showed first, second and third degree burns. <br /><br />According to reports, President Evo Morales said he has ordered a deep investigation on the crash and drastic sanctions on the company.<br /><br />--------------------------------------------------------<br /><br />TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
