The death toll from powerful storms sweeping across south-central America is rising.<br /><br />At least 18 people have been killed as tornados wiped out entire neighbourhoods in Arkansas.<br /><br />Winds ripped houses off their foundations and flipped cars on top of the rubble in the small town of Vilonia in central Arkansas. <br /><br />The fatalities are the first of this year’s tornado season. At least one person was killed in neighbouring Oklahoma.<br /><br />Rescuers and homeowners continue digging through rubble.<br /><br />Scott Barrier, a Vilonia resident said: “It took all of our trees. We had a big motor home and moved it into the house, busted out the windows.”<br /><br />The severe storm system continues pushing its way across the country. People living in the Midwest and South bracing themselves for severe hail, high winds and tornados.
