Day one of London’s 48-hour tube strike brought rush-hour chaos to the capital.<br /><br />The RMT union said support for the action is ‘rock solid.’<br /><br />The dispute is over London Underground’s modernisation of the tube.<br /><br />London Underground plans to close every ticket office on the network. <br /><br />The RMT says the move will result in 1,000 job losses. <br /><br />Commuters bore the brunt of the stay away day: “I had to grab a bus because my usual tube station Sloane Square was closed. There is a lot of anger on the streets. Everyone on the buses is angry,” said one man.<br /><br />The strike ends on Wednesday evening to be followed by a further 72-hour strike beginning on Monday May 5.
