Scenes of panic and desperation in the Ukrainian city of Odessa.<br/> <br />Crowds do their best to rescue lives from a trade union building set ablaze.<br/> <br />It was here that dozens of people were killed in a fire. Others were shot dead when fighting broke out on the streets, between pro and anti-Russian groups.<br/> <br />Reports say the number dead was at least 40.<br/> <br />Police say a pro-Kiev march was ambushed. Petrol bombs, stones and explosive devices were thrown. Police soon lost control, and the building was later set on fire.<br/> <br />It's the worst violence seen here since Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovich was ousted in February.<br/> <br />And some residents say they fear some people may seek retribution.
