A day after a huge landslide in the northern Afghan province of Badakhshan, local residents continue to dig through the rubble to search for survivors. <br /><br />But hope is fading of finding anyone alive amongst the rock and mud, which is 30 metres deep in places.<br /><br />A spokesman for the Badakhshan provincial governor told reporters that 2,100 people had been trapped that all were believed to have died.<br /><br />A local man, who helped to retrieve several bodies, told reporters, “I urge the government to come and help take the bodies out.”<br /><br />Relief efforts are now focused on helping more than 4,000 displaced people. The UN is sending emergency supplies of water, food and medical care.
