The murder trial of South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has resumed in Pretoria after a two-week break.<br /><br />Two witness for the defence took the stand. <br /><br />John Stander was the first person Pistorius called after he had shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.<br /><br />Stander said Pistorius was distraught and said he had shot Reeva by mistake thinking she was an intruder. <br /><br />Carice Viljoen, John Stander’s daughter, said she saw the accused carrying the body of Reeva Steenkamp down the stairs.<br /><br />The defence team plan to call a ballistics expert and a psychologist who will testify to the court on the disability and vulnerability of Pistorius.<br /><br />The prosecution is trying to establish that the 27-year-old is a reckless individual who refuses to take responsibility for his actions.<br /><br />If found guilty Pistorius could face life imprisonment.<br /><br />Pistorius maintains he shot Reeva Steenkamp by mistake thinking she was an intruder.
