Spain is in shock after Isabel Carrasco, a well-known provincial politician from the country’s ruling party, was shot dead as she crossed a footbridge near her home.<br /><br />Two women, thought to be a mother and daughter, have been arrested over the death of the 59-year-old local government leader in the northern city of Leon. <br /><br />Witnesses there say they heard several shots fired.<br /><br />Spain’s Interior Ministry is looking into personal revenge as the most likely motive for the<br />attack, according to Spanish media.<br /><br />Carrasco was the local head of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy’s conservative Popular Party.<br /><br />Amid reports the younger woman may have recently been fired from the council, senior Spanish politicians paid their respects and cancelled immediate campaign events for this month’s European elections.
