An unmanned Russian rocket which was launched from Kazakhstan with a satellite on board has crashed nine minutes after lift-off.

The Proton-M rocket was carrying an Express-AM4R satellite which would have been Russia’s most advanced and powerful. It was supposed to provide internet access to the country’s remote regions.

It’s believed there was a fault with one of the steering engines.Launches of similar rockets are being put on hold at the Baikonur space centre until the exact cause of the crash is known.

Fragments of the rocket are understood to have burnt in the atmosphere so they won’t cause any damage on the ground.
