Netflix is to launch its online movie and TV subscription service later this year in more European countries . <br /><br />The US company’s major push into new markets will kick off with streaming to France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg where it will be competing with established video-on-demand services.<br /><br />Previously its European presence has been limited to Britain, Scandinavia and the Netherlands. <br /><br />The costs of the expansion will mean further losses for Netflix’s international division, the company has warned its shareholders, though those losses are falling. <br /><br />Netflix currently has 48 million customers for its monthly subscription service in more than 40 countries.<br /><br />The lion’s share – 35.7 million of them – are in the United States, where the firm dominates the subscription video-on-demand market.<br /><br />with Reuters
