A bystander who was shot during clashes between Turkish police and protesters in Istanbul on Thursday has died from his wounds.<br /><br />Thirty-year-old Ugur Kurt had apparently been attending a funeral close to the protests when he was shot.<br /><br />It’s still unclear who is responsible.<br /><br />Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc announced that prosecutors would open an investigation into the death.<br /><br />The clashes began after police tried to disperse a small gorup of protesters in the Okeydani district who were chanting slogans about the Soma mining tragedy which killed 301 people last week.<br /><br />Police fired live rounds into the air and used water cannon as protesters hurled rocks and petrol bombs. <br /><br />In total seven policemen and two civilians were also wounded in the violence which lasted into the night.
