British film director Ken Loach has been in Cannes showing his new film “Jimmy’s Hall.”<br /><br />Set in 1930s Ireland, it tells the story of political activist James Gralton who comes up against the might of the Catholic Church when he sets up a community hall with dancing and literature lessons.<br /><br />The latest film by 25-year-old French-Canadian director Xavier Dolan was screened on Thursday. “Mommy” is about a single mum from Montreal and her violent teenage son.<br /><br />Dolan told euronews he was proud to be in competition with veterans like Ken Loach and Jean-Luc Godard.<br /><br />“It’s very emotional and very intimidating at the same time,” Dolan said, “but I am very proud of my film and I am very honored to be in their company.”<br /><br />The two films are amongst 18 competing for this year’s prestigious Palme d’Or which is due to be awarded on Saturday.
