Hirst work sells for 11 million euros at amfAR auction

A three metre tall mammoth skeleton by Damian Hirst sold for 11 millions Euros at the annual amfAR auction at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc just outside Cannes on Thursday (May 22).<br/> <br />It was used in 'Gone but Not Forgotten', part of Hirst's 'Natural History' series which the artist began in the early 1990s.<br/> <br />Hosted by amfAR Global Fundraising Chairwoman Sharon Stone the live auction is part of one of the most glamorous nights in the Cannes Film Festival calendar.<br/> <br />Raising money for AIDS research the event drew A listers including Leonardo DiCaprio. Marion Cotillard and Gael Garcia Bernal and raised a record total of $38 million.
