ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />A speeding passenger train rammed into a stationary freight train in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state on Monday (May 26) killing at least 40 people and injuring dozens, eyewitnesses said.<br/> <br />The accident took place as the New Delhi-Gorakhpur Gorakhdham Express crashed into a cargo train which was stationed at Chureb Railway Station in the Basti district of the province.<br/> <br />Railway authorities said rescue and medical teams were immediately rushed to the location to provide first-aid to the injured.<br/> <br />Six cars from the express train derailed in the accident.<br/> <br />There has been a recent increase in the number of train accidents in the country.<br/> <br />Indian Railways is a vital national transportation grid for the country's 1.2 billion people, cramming 18 million people a day on to aging trains.
