Arun Jaitley (born 28 December 1952) is currently the Finance Minister and the Defence Minister of the Union cabinet of India in the 16th Loksabha. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.He has also previously held the portfolios as the Union cabinet Minister for Commerce and Industry, Law and Justice in the National Democratic Alliance government (1998-2004). He was Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate for Amritsar for Indian general election, 2014 but he was defeated by Congress's candidate Captain Amarinder Singh.e has been practising law before the Supreme Court of India and several High Courts in the country since 1977.
