The Weekly Comet hosts Tamara Conniff & Jonathan McHugh welcome Emmy-nominated compose Miriam Cutler and indie rockers The 88. Plus Jason Kramer's Pick of the Week and special guest Alec Benjamin! <br /> <br />Composer Miriam Cutler is a renaissance woman. She started her career as a singer/horn player in a number of bands including Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo alongside Danny Elfman. Plus, she has co-produced a number of albums for such acts as Joe Williams, Nina Simone, Marlena Shaw and Shirley Horn. <br /> <br />Miriam has become the go-to composer for documentaries. She was recently nominating for an Emmy for PBS' "Desert of Forbidden Art." <br /> <br />In addition, "Ethel" -- a full-length feature documentary on the life of Ethel Kennedy, which premiered at Sundance 2012 -- will be released on HBO this fall. <br /> <br />Her other credits include "One Lucky Elephant," "Vito" and "Poster Girl." <br /> <br />The 88 are one of the best alt/pop/rock bands to come out of Los Angeles in recent years. After a brief stint signed to Island Records, the band eared their indie status again in 2009 and went on to record a self titled full-length album and EP "Actors." <br /> <br />Along the way they caught the ear of non other than Ray Davies of the Kinks and have been on the road with him all over the world. <br /> <br />The 88 have also toured with such acts as The B-52s, Matt Costa, Smashing Pumpkins and the late Elliott Smith. <br /> <br />Their music has also been featured in a number of films, commercials, video games and TV shows including Universal film "The Lorax" and NBC comedy "Community."
