ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />In a surprise White House briefing room appearance, President Barack Obama announced on Friday (May 30) that Press Secretary Jay Carney will step down.<br/> <br />"I'm going to miss him a lot. I will continue to rely on him as a friend and advisor after he leaves to spend as much of the summer as he can with his kids before he decides what's next for him," said Obama.<br/> <br />The president wished Carney well and named his deputy, Josh Earnest, as the new Press Secretary.<br/> <br />Carney said he was looking at leaving his job officially in mid-June.
