Ukraine's Poroshenko outlines peace plan at inauguration

Ukraine’s new president Petro Poroshenko has said Crimea was, is and always will be Ukrainian after taking an oath of office in Kyiv. <br /><br />Addressing MPs inside the Ukrainian parliament in his inauguration speech Poroshenko called for separatists in the east of the country to lay down their arms and said he would guarantee a safe corridor for Russian fighters to go home. <br /><br />Poroshenko also said he intended to sign very soon the economic part of an association deal with the EU, insisting he saw the agreement as a first step to full EU membership. <br /><br />In addition to stronger ties with Europe, Poroshenko insisted no federalisation would be allowed and Ukraine would remain a unitary state.
