Despite government’s claims of providing reliefs and subsidies, the latest reports suggest that the tax imposed on petroleum products is the biggest source of revenue for the government. <br />The government that claimed to be providing 50 paisa and 1.5 billion rupees worth subsidy earned some 74 billion rupees over the period of three months. <br />If petroleum products’ prices are evaluated, the government is receiving up to Rs 24 per liter tax on petrol and diesel. Some 17% General Sales Tax (GST) and 10 rupees levi tax is being charged on petrol.
