I went down to a bar
Where they said I could find loose women
After a few drinks
My head started swimmin’

Everyone there started to look good
I said bartender, one more if you could

To whet my appetite, get up my nerve
And get the attention I deserve

Straight shots of Tequila made me brave
My speech was slurred
My vision blurred
Who was I there to save?

But everyone here is drowning for no reason
All the same excuses that are out of season

They spin the bottle to place the blame
They jump into the fire to escape the flame

I feel like one foot is in the grave
My thoughts all jumbled
My words all mumbled
So, to what am I a slave

Don’t know if I’ll make the last call
Legs are shaky, ready to fall

On the rebound from a recent divorce
My words would only show remorse

Since she left, this is all I crave
I’m out of focus
Don’t get this hocus pocus
I just need to survive this final tidal wave

Alfred Ramos

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/drinking-buddies/
