Why do I keep trying? <br />Why do I keep holding on? <br />To a dream that doesn't want me <br />To a mother who has moved on <br /> <br />You have left me here to drown in my tears <br />Taught me how to never trust another <br />Taught me to never face my fears <br />Just to play it safe, and stay under the covers <br /> <br />Why do you continue to break my heart everyday? <br />And more important, why do I continue to let you? <br />I guess now it is safe to say <br />You are now the mother that I never knew <br /> <br />There are things that are more important now <br />In my life and in yours <br />Too bad, mine are here for the better <br />And yours are here for the worse <br /> <br />So now where does this leave us? <br />The same place we have always been? <br />Distant, unsheltered, alone and useless <br />Doesn't really matter, I'll just do what I always do: bare it and grin <br /> <br />I wonder every single day <br />If I will ever see the real you again <br />The mom that opened her arms to me <br />The one that was a God-given friend <br /> <br />Now, as I lay here alone in the dark <br />Exhausted from the battle that you have drug me through <br />I begin to ask God why you make loving you so hard <br />And why do I even still try to? <br /> <br />You have missed out on a lot in my life <br />Even though you have always been right there <br />But all that you left for me was an empty person <br />Who is too caught up in her own, to even care <br /> <br />I wish I could take these horrible, lonely feelings I have <br />And shove them inside of you <br />So then I can go on in my life and maybe be happy <br />And instead, I can be the daughter you never knew<br /><br />Tiffany Jennings<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-daughter-you-never-knew/
