Dark night and deepest thought
And broken sleep and broken dream
The darkest night of tortured walk
Of darkest past and darkest talk
Demons hide like shallow Mist
And try to destroy our darkest bliss
And when that cold, bold voice of darkest thought
Should pray upon a Soul so pure
To make us feel like burning Cinder
And breathless Fish upon the Shore
At the Abyss we dare not linger
For shivering fear that we might fall
We shout and strike with all our might
And try to defeat the long, long night
Darkness falls like Blanket Black
And dark thoughts Dance like Hangmans Death
And darkest Demons are all around
And we are lost like Souls posessed
Upon that darkest Death like Ground
Then darkest night turns to daylight hour
And darkest thought is thought no more
And we can wander upon that happy Shore
Where Gold dust Sand will shine so bright
And dark Soot drenched thoughts will be no more
And Golden echo Feet and Song of Bird
Will Sing as we defeat that long, long night.

David Burton Richardson

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-long-long-night-2/
