He has lived for six months on the west side of town <br />And the street many times he has walked up and down <br />Where few do greet him with a hello or good day <br />The stranger in their midst as a stranger will stay. <br /> <br />He does feel for his outsider status the fault is his own <br />That to the local community leaders had he made himself known <br />That he would be accepted and all with him would be okay <br />But we are what we are that is our human way. <br /> <br />A self imposed outsider he well may be <br />But small exclusive groups form every local community <br />And his main drawback is that he is quite shy <br />And to become better known he's not willing to try. <br /> <br />Not a member of any committee or any local club <br />He drinks on his own in the local pub <br />In his side of the town he does not have a mate <br />Though those who know of him his presence tolerate. <br /> <br />That he may be a self imposed outsider may well be the case <br />But in his side of the town his is no longer a strange face <br />Though being shy and humble few friends for you gain <br />And as outsiders such people do seem to remain.<br /><br />Francis Duggan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-self-imposed-outsider/
