I was shoring my heart up for the break <br />Really wasn't sure how much it would take <br />I wondered what kind of excuse you'd make <br />While everything I held dear was at stake <br /> <br />I then resorted to a desperate act, <br />‘Cuz the Devil and I had made a pact <br />I'd give him my soul, 'twas already cracked <br />And you would leave me with my heart intact <br /> <br />But didn't take me long to realize <br />That, just like yours, his promises were lies <br />And, I knew once I saw him in your eyes <br />That it was about time that I got wise <br /> <br />Had been a long time since you stole my smile <br />Since I gave you that inch, but you took a mile <br />I had gone and lived in Limbo awhile <br />But I've come back now ‘cuz Hell ain't my style <br /> <br />So, go on now, don't you worry ‘bout me <br />I had to look hard, but I finally see <br />You weren't the whole forest, but just a tree <br />And there really ARE more fish in the sea<br /><br />The Poet Darkling<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/shoring-my-heart-up/
