In not being content <br />With one’s self <br /> <br />A humanness in <br />The confusion. <br /> <br />There’s a fear of the dark <br />That stalks some children <br /> <br />A longing to return <br />To the ‘safety’ of the darkness <br />As they become aware of self. <br /> <br />There’s a melancholy <br />In the survival of age <br />A stillness in the reservoir <br />Of a troubled mind <br />Like a siren-song calling <br />You to ‘the edge’ <br /> <br />Resolution in the poet’s hand <br />That spills words that sooth <br />Upon a page and float like a kite <br />Attached and free, for all <br />To see and ponder upon <br />Lifting ‘a burden’ <br />And cutting its ‘string’. <br /> <br />There’s a celebration <br />In friendships ‘then’ and ‘now’ <br />That keeps the heart and soul <br />Smiling and the ‘eye of the beholder’ <br />Focused on opportunities to give. <br /> <br /> <br />(JB, 2011)<br /><br />Jim Boone<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/there-s-a-burden/
