To God <br />we gave our hearts <br />closed our eyelids to pray <br />in a humble and peaceful way <br />many years ago, on the eighth of May <br />neath friendly victorious skies <br />and banners high, we trod <br />we gave our hearts <br />to God. <br /> <br />Comrades gathered in each City Square <br />as songs of elation floated on air... <br />the second world war of wars had ended <br />and heavenly peace, to earth descended. <br /> <br />Raids from the Luftwaffe low in flight <br />still tortured our minds in dreams at night <br />Wars should never ever be <br />but wars will ever ever be! <br /> <br />'Fight the good fight with all thy might' <br />Is this wrong, or is this right? <br />Should we be looking back in shame <br />or should we be singing a battle refrain? <br /> <br />'Twas an old-fashioned world of despair, <br />when spitfires and hurricanes took to the air, <br />our lesson we should have learnt well, <br />but did we?
