This is a prayer which is also a poem <br />A short poem which is also a prayer, one of my ‘psalms’ <br />A simple meditation on war and suffering <br />A way of saying sorry and a way of saying thank you <br />A way of saying please, please God help us to please you <br />O Father, hear us <br /> <br />We remember today so as not to forget <br />We remember today so as not to repeat <br />But we do forget and we have to repeat <br />And in repeating we have to repent <br />Is there any way out of this cycle dear Lord? <br />O Father forgive us <br /> <br />We forget the pain, the suffering and death <br />The death of the young, the death of the innocent <br />Death in Iraq, death in Great Britain <br />Death in Baghdad, death London <br />Is there any way out of this dear Lord? <br />O Father forgive us <br /> <br />But we care for the victims <br />We wear our poppies with pride <br />13 million eligible for support from the British Legion <br />With its 300,000 calls for help every year <br />They are cared for and housed by us <br />Thank you God <br /> <br />But no rights can cancel out our wrongs <br />Only your forgiveness, dear God <br />Pour into our hearts the grace of mount Calvary <br />Pour into our hearts the love of the cruel cross <br />And help us forever to walk in your ways, <br />Dear God, we ask in Jesus’ name.
